The light at the bow of a ship during navigation is generally called a bow light, also known as a projectile light.

It is a white light installed at the front of the ship, directly ahead, that provides continuous illumination. Its primary function is to indicate the ship's position and course of navigation to other vessels at night or in low visibility conditions, helping to determine the relative positions and movements of other ships and preventing collisions.

According to maritime regulations, the horizontal arc of the bow light must extend 112.5° to either side of the bow, and it must be clearly identifiable by other vessels from a specific safe distance.
