Function of Buffers
Mooring buffers are devices used to protect port terminals and vessels. Their main function is to effectively protect the safety of vessels and the terminal and reduce impact forces when a vessel's positioning is inaccurate or a collision occurs. Buffers also reduce the degree of friction between the vessel and the terminal, protecting the surfaces of both.
Application Scope of Buffers
Mooring buffers are suitable for various applications involving cables, ropes, and cable connectors on various terminals, quays, and ships. They are widely used in terminals, ports, dock facilities, and various marine engineering projects to protect the terminal, primarily for terminals handling rolling cables or large quantities of cargo.
Types and Selection Recommendations of Buffers
Depending on different application scenarios and needs, buffers can be divided into two types: load-bearing type and air type. When selecting a buffer, factors such as size, shape, material, and buffering performance need to be considered to ensure effective protection of vessels and the terminal.
- Load-bearing buffers: These consist of an internally suspended metal strip and an external rubber covering. These buffers have high load-bearing capacity and can absorb large amounts of impact force, protecting the safety of the terminal and vessels.
- Load-bearing buffers: These consist of an internally suspended metal strip and an external rubber covering. These buffers have high load-bearing capacity and can absorb large amounts of impact force, protecting the safety of the terminal and vessels.
- Air-type buffers: These consist of internally suspended air bags and an external rubber covering. They are lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and provide excellent cushioning against friction between the dock and the vessel.
When selecting a mooring buffer, factors such as the buffer's load, vessel size, dock shape, cushioning performance, and reliability must be considered. It is also recommended to select appropriate buffer materials and specifications based on different working environments and usage conditions to ensure optimal cushioning performance.
